Qazvin is one of the cities of Iran situated in the central part of the country and has served as the capital of Iran for a period in the past. It is the capital of Qazvin Province and is located at an elevation of 1,278 meters above sea level. The history and origins of Qazvin date back to the Sassanian era when it flourished under the reign of King Shapur.

Throughout history, Qazvin has been an important economic hub along the Silk Road, serving as a significant passage for traders and merchants transporting their goods from the east to the west.

Qazvin is the second-largest industrial city in Iran and is home to factories producing glass, steel, ceramics, tiles, as well as agriculture products like grapes and almonds. It ranks third in terms of tourism revenues. The primary language spoken in Qazvin is Persian with the Qazvini accent, and there is also a significant population speaking Tati.

Tourist Attractions in Qazvin:

1. Masjid al-Nabi (Prophet’s Mosque): Masjid al-Nabi is located on the southern side of Imam Khomeini Street, in the direction of Qazvin Bazaar. It is still used for congregational prayers and Friday prayers, but tourists are also allowed to visit the mosque.

2. Chehel Sotoun Museum Palace: The Chehel Sotoun Museum Palace, also known as the French Hat Mansion, is one of the most important historical sites in Qazvin. It holds significant cultural and historical value in the city.

3. Rafi Church: Rafi Church is located on Taleghani Street in Qazvin, within the courtyard of a school of the same name.

4. Qajari Bath (Hamam-e Qajari): Qajari Bath is one of the oldest and largest traditional baths in Qazvin.

Customs and Traditions:

Like other Iranians, the people of Qazvin also observe ancient traditions, including visiting the homes of their elders during special occasions.

One of the most famous souvenirs of Qazvin is its carpets. Due to various reasons, the handicrafts of Qazvin had been somewhat forgotten until a few years ago. However, since 2015, with considerable efforts and extensive research, significant attempts have been made to revive this art.

Embroidery, Jajim weaving, and Mojavari weaving are traditional handicrafts in Qazvin.

Climate: The climate in Qazvin is characterized as a cold semi-arid climate, with the Central Plain of Qazvin and the cities of Abyek and Takestan experiencing the most significant influence of this climate zone. As one travels to higher elevations in the northern parts of these cities and the mountainous regions, the average temperature decreases, resulting in a cold semi-arid climate with frigid conditions.

The best season for traveling to Qazvin is spring.
